| Drug and Alcohol Counselling | ![]() |
Perhaps your use of alcohol or drugs (substances) is starting to cause problems to emerge in other areas of your life. Or perhaps your use is spiralling out of control. There is a common misperception that people with alcohol or drug dependency need alcohol or drugs on a daily basis, and so many people think that because they do not drink or use every day that they do not have a problem. This is not so. Basically if your use of alcohol or drugs is causing problems in other areas of your life then it's a problem. You do not need to be physically dependent for there to be a problem. Counselling can enable you to begin to resolve the issues which are causing you to drink or to use drugs to excess. Through exploration of the issues which underlie your misuse of drugs or alcohol you gain an understanding and greater awareness of yourself and what causes you to use to excess. Counselling will enable you to face your fears and to embark on a more meaningful way of life.

| My Methods As a qualified social worker I have worked professionally with both drug and alcohol addiction for over 20 years. I have extensive experience of the nature of addiction in all it's various guises and of the wide range of issues which people face on their journey towards recovery. As a qualified Drug and Alcohol counsellor I offer a planned program which is tailored for the individual based on that individuals own goals, hopes and priorities. I aim to enable people to feel empowered and to be proactive in their recovery whether they are seeking abstinence or whether they wish to reduce their use of either alcohol or drugs. The duration of this program is dependent on the individuals requirements and will be agreed jointly at the first session. I do not encourage lengthy delving into past experiences. I work very much with the concept of 'being' and of living in the present. Naturally events from the past will surface and of course will be discussed however the main focus will be to work towards acceptance and consequently move on to the present. I am an advocate of positive thinking and I encourage people to harness the power of their thinking in a positive and constructive way. In my opinion no real benefit is served by continually talking about negative events over and over as all this does is reinforce the negative emotion felt at the time of the event. Consequently it can make someone feel worse about themselves thus leading to lapses. I endeavour to encourage people to feel good about themselves, to be positive and to reach a point where they can see a positive and rewarding future for themselves. As an Alternative Therapist I have found that alternative therapies can be very effective in aiding recovery from addiction. Reiki Healing is especially effective in treating addiction issues due to it's capacity to heal holistically on a subconscious level. Because it works on a subconscious level it is particularly effective in enabling release of old negaive emotions and thought patterns which so often precede addiction. Reiki promotes a positive outlook and is particularly effective in enabling the release of negative habitual patterns. Reiki facilitates self awareness and positive thinking - two vital elements in overcoming dependant behaviours. |

I offer an initial consultation free of charge (20-30 mins). This enables discussion as to what would be most suitable for you as an individual. You may simply want one to one counselling or you might wish to have a combination of one to one counselling and Reiki Healing. It is also beneficial to incorporate an element of Relaxation therapy into the package if you so wish. Being able to relax is vital in enabling you to get through stressful periods without using. Basically all of my healing methods can be incorporated providing a truly holistic and effective method. All these aspects can be discussed and no matter what your preference there is always flexibility to change once counselling has commenced.
